The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) officially commenced the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) Online Accreditation Survey Visit for the Level III Survey Revisit of its Master of Science in Fisheries Major in Aquaculture program from July 28 to 30, 2026. The three-day evaluation underscores the College’s sustained commitment to academic excellence, quality assurance, and continuous institutional improvement. The opening program featured welcome remarks from Dr. Marlyn B. Llameg, Vice President for Academic Affairs, followed by an opening statement from Dr. Lynette A. Bontia, SPAMAST President, reaffirming the institution’s unwavering pursuit of excellence in graduate education. The accreditation is led by Dr. Shiela G. Reyes of Agusan del Sur State University, serving as Team Leader, together with Prof. Grace B. Brizuela of Bicol University and Dr. Anita C. Sornito of the University of Southern Mindanao as members of the panel of accreditors, who will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the program’s compliance with AACCUP quality standards.
The activity brought together SPAMAST officials, program counterparts, faculty members, and stakeholders in a collaborative demonstration of the institution’s readiness to meet national standards for graduate education. The program also included the introduction of SPAMAST program counterparts by Dr. Karen E. Cabalquinto, Dean of the Institute of Professional and Graduate Studies, followed by the presentation of the program’s narrative profile and compliance report before the formal evaluation. The survey revisit provides an opportunity for the College to showcase enhancements in instruction, research, extension, faculty development, student support, and governance while reaffirming its commitment to producing highly competent fisheries professionals capable of addressing the evolving needs of the aquaculture sector.
As the accreditation survey continues, SPAMAST remains steadfast in strengthening its culture of quality, accountability, and innovation through outcomes-based education and evidence-driven institutional development. The results of the evaluation will further reinforce the College’s commitment to producing competent professionals and advancing sustainable development through graduate education. This initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering academic excellence, promoting sustainable fisheries and environmental stewardship, and strengthening collaboration for quality higher education.
