SPAMAST Joins Arbor Day 2026 Tree Planting to Strengthen Environmental Stewardship in Davao Occidental

The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability by participating in the Arbor Day 2026 Tree Planting Activity organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-PENRO) of Davao Occidental on June 25 in Barangay Kidadan, Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental. Representing the College, selected employees from SPAMAST joined government agencies, community stakeholders, and partner institutions in the annual environmental initiative aimed at promoting forest restoration, biodiversity conservation, and ecological balance.

The activity was conducted in observance of Arbor Day, celebrated nationwide every June 25 pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 643, which encourages collective action in protecting and restoring the country’s natural resources. The tree planting activity underscored the importance of collaborative environmental action in addressing the growing challenges of climate change, land degradation, and biodiversity loss. Spearheaded by DENR-PENRO Davao Occidental under the leadership of PENR Officer Dr. Luningning M. Dalayon, the initiative served as a platform for government institutions, educational organizations, and local communities to work together toward a healthier and more resilient environment. By participating in the activity, SPAMAST demonstrated its continued support for national environmental programs while reinforcing the institution’s advocacy of integrating environmental responsibility into education, research, extension, and community engagement.

The College’s participation reflects its enduring commitment to cultivating environmental awareness and encouraging meaningful community involvement in sustainable development initiatives. Beyond planting trees, the activity symbolizes a shared responsibility to preserve natural ecosystems for future generations and strengthen partnerships that advance environmental protection. This initiative directly contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13: Climate Action, through efforts to mitigate climate change; SDG 15: Life on Land, by supporting forest restoration and biodiversity conservation; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by fostering collaboration among government agencies, educational institutions, and local communities in pursuing sustainable environmental development.
