
The Municipality of Sta. Maria welcomed distinguished international and regional leaders during the official visit of Zhao Xinzhen, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, highlighting opportunities for strengthened international collaboration, sustainable development, and meaningful community engagement.
As part of the itinerary, the delegation visited the Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) Sta. Maria Extension Class. Local officials, and stakeholders also showcased the municipality’s growing initiatives in bamboo production and product development.
The visit coincided with the celebration of the 58th Araw ng Sta. Maria, highlighted by a ceremonial bamboo planting activity. Joining the activity was SPAMAST President Dr. Lynette A. Bontia, who actively participated alongside other dignitaries in planting 58 bamboo seedlings, symbolizing environmental stewardship, sustainable growth, and community resilience.
Also present during the event were DOT Regional Director, Tanya Rabat-Tan, representatives from the Department of Agriculture Region XI and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region XI, as well as Dr. Augie Fuentes, College President . Their participation demonstrated strong inter-agency support for initiatives that promote local economic development, environmental conservation, and sustainable resource management.
Discussions during the visit highlighted the potential for future partnerships that could strengthen cultural exchanges, economic development, and innovation in sustainable agriculture, while showcasing the municipality’s commitment to environmental protection and community-based enterprise development through bamboo initiatives.
The engagement served as an avenue for stakeholders to exchange ideas and explore collaborative opportunities that contribute to the long-term growth and sustainability of Sta. Maria and the wider region.
