Where innovation meets purpose, possibilities become solutions. This spirit took center stage as the Southern Philippines Agri-Business, Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) supported the opening of the 2026 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) – Davao Occidental on September 1, 2026, highlighting the transformative power of science, technology, and digital innovation in shaping a safer, more sustainable, and resilient province.
With a theme, “Security, Technology, and Digital Innovation: Driving Food Security, Sustainable Energy, and National Resilience,” the activity served as a platform for stakeholders to discuss the vital role of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in addressing development challenges, strengthening community resilience, and creating new opportunities for the province.
Held at the SPAMAST campus in Malita, Davao Occidental, the celebration brought together government leaders, academic institutions, science and technology practitioners, and development partners to highlight the importance of collaboration in advancing innovative and sustainable solutions for the community.
As an institution committed to education, research, innovation, and community extension, SPAMAST continues to support initiatives that promote the application of STI in agriculture, fisheries, environmental sustainability, digital innovation, and other areas essential to local development.
In her message, SPAMAST President Dr. Lynette A. Bontia emphasized the significance of collaboration in building a more progressive and resilient province.
“These collaborations are not only about projects and programs; they are about building a future where every community in our province rises, where opportunities are implemented, and where innovation becomes the foundation of progress.”
Dr. Bontia underscored that meaningful partnerships among government institutions, academe, industry, and communities are essential in ensuring that science, technology, and innovation translate into concrete benefits for the people of Davao Occidental.
The 2026 RSTW further reinforces the importance of empowering communities through knowledge, technology, and innovation while promoting solutions that respond to food security, sustainable energy, digital transformation, and national resilience.
The activity contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger, through the promotion of innovations supporting food security; SDG 4: Quality Education, through the strengthening of knowledge, learning, and awareness in science, technology, and innovation; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, through the advancement of science, technology, and digital innovation; SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by strengthening community resilience; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through collaboration among government, academe, and other stakeholders. Through its continued support for STI-driven programs and partnerships, SPAMAST strengthens its commitment to building a sustainable, innovative, and resilient Davao Occidental where science and technology serve as catalysts for inclusive development, knowledge advancement, and improved quality of life.
