This insightful research was conducted by student researchers Mark Anthony G. Baclay and Cristina Dominie Merie M. Cortado, under the mentorship of faculty advisers Prof. Vanessa Angelica D. Acosta and Dr. Aldwin T. Mirandaโall from the Institute of Teacher Education and Information Technology at SPAMAST.
The study reveals a compelling connection between the use of motivational strategies and academic success in mathematics among first-year college students. Notably, strategies such as Implication, Self-Reinforcing, Applicability, and Positive Association emerged as strong predictors of math performance. Together, these factors account for 75.6% of the variance in studentsโ academic outcomes, underscoring their vital role in educational achievement.
This research adds to the growing body of literature emphasizing the importance of motivation in learning and offers practical insights for educators seeking to improve student performance in mathematics.
