MALITA, Davao Occidental — Southern Philippines Agribusiness and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) President Dr. Lynette A. Bontia joined provincial leaders in a grassroots outreach initiative in Sitio Kisoy, Barangay Little Baguio, reinforcing a unified commitment to inclusive governance and community development. The activity, led by Vice Governor Hon. Lorna Bautista-Bandigan and the 4th Sangguniang Panlalawigan, gathered key officials including Provincial Administrator Brett L. Bautista, Congressman Hon. Claude P. Bautista, Malita Mayor Hon. Benjamin Joseph P. Bautista Jr., and Vice Mayor Bradley L. Bautista. The outreach program centered on directly addressing the needs of residents through accessible public service, reflecting the province’s continuing effort to bring government closer to underserved communities.
During the program, Dr. Bontia delivered a brief yet compelling message emphasizing that poverty should never be seen as a barrier to achieving professional success. She underscored the transformative power of education, sharing that determination and opportunity can elevate individuals beyond socioeconomic limitations. Dr. Bontia also paid tribute to the late Assemblyman Benjamin V. Bautista Sr., acknowledging his pivotal role in the establishment of SPAMAST, an institution that continues to expand educational access in the region. The event also showcased cultural pride, as student scholars under the Vice Governor’s program welcomed guests through a vibrant tribal dance, symbolizing the community’s heritage and resilience.
The outreach initiative reflects a broader vision of sustainable and inclusive development, aligning closely with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). By fostering collaboration among government leaders, academic institutions, and local communities, the program demonstrates how grassroots engagement can drive meaningful change. As Davao Occidental continues to prioritize people-centered governance, initiatives like the Sitio Kisoy visit highlight the enduring impact of service, leadership, and education in shaping a more equitable future.
