In celebration of 42 years of athletic excellence and creative spirit, SPAMAST launched its much-anticipated 2024 Intramurals with an opening ceremony held at the SPAMAST Grounds. This year’s theme, โBreaking Boundaries: Celebrating 42 Years of Athletic Spirit and Creative Excellence,โ reflects the institution’s commitment to fostering unity, sportsmanship, and cultural identity. This was held at SPAMAST Grounds, Malita, Davao Occidental on October 29,2024.
The festivities kicked off with a grand float parade and a vibrant saludo competition, showcasing the creativity of each institute as they embodied the “Bagani”-inspired concept of diverse tribal identities. Each institute represented a unique tribe, symbolizing resilience, community, and cultural heritage: the Institute of Teacher Education and Information Technology (ITEIT) as the Taga-Gubat (Foresters), the Institute of Human Service (IHS) as Taga-Disyerto (Desert Dwellers), the Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Development Communication (IASDC) as Tagapatag (Plain Dwellers), Institute of Fisheries and Marine Sciences as Taga-Laot (Fisherfolks), and the Institute of Business Management and Governance (IBMG) as Taga-Kalakal (Traders).
The opening ceremony was marked by an array of formalities that embodied the spirit of sportsmanship and unity, including the Oath of Sportsmanship, Allegiance to the College, and the lighting of the urnโa symbolic gesture igniting the spirit of the games. SPAMAST officials and athletes also participated in the ceremonial tossing of the ball and banner-raising, which further invigorated the crowd with enthusiasm and pride.
As the games commence, students and faculty alike are expected to come together, inspired by competition and camaraderie, to honor the institution’s rich history and dynamic spirit.
