Extending its academic horizons beyond institutional borders, SPAMAST takes a significant step toward deeper regional engagement and internationalization. The Southern Philippines Agri-Business, Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) officially strengthened its regional and international linkages through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Passage to ASEAN (P2A) during a virtual ceremony held on October 7, 2026. The signing formally inducted SPAMAST into the General Assembly of Passage to ASEAN, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s continuing efforts to expand its international partnerships and strengthen its engagement with higher education institutions and organizations across the ASEAN region. The agreement was signed by Dr. Hang Le, Director-General of the P2A Secretariat, and Dr. Lynette A. Bontia, Ph.D., SUC President III of SPAMAST, affirming both institutions’ commitment to advancing meaningful cooperation and collaborative initiatives. The virtual ceremony was attended by key SPAMAST officials, including Dr. Arneda Jean S. Gonzales, Ph.D., Internationalization Focal Person; Dr. Marlyn B. Llameg, Ph.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs; Angeline Lim; institute deans; and institute internationalization focal persons, together with representatives of P2A. Through the partnership, SPAMAST and P2A will explore opportunities for academic cooperation, student mobility, joint research, knowledge exchange, workforce development, cross-border learning, and participation in ASEAN-wide initiatives and dialogues. The collaboration is expected to provide SPAMAST students, faculty members, and academic units with greater opportunities to engage in regional academic networks, exchange knowledge and practices, and participate in initiatives that promote international and intercultural learning. The partnership also complements SPAMAST’s continuing internationalization initiatives, as the institution seeks to expand its network of international partners and create collaborative platforms that contribute to academic excellence, institutional development, and global engagement. For SPAMAST, the MoU represents more than a formal agreement—it serves as a gateway toward broader regional collaboration and greater participation in the ASEAN higher education community. The partnership advances Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education by creating opportunities for enhanced learning experiences, academic exchange, knowledge sharing, faculty engagement, and student mobility that contribute to more inclusive, relevant, and globally responsive education. It likewise supports Sustainable Development Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening institutional cooperation and building strategic partnerships that enable collaborative initiatives across borders. Through this partnership, SPAMAST reinforces its commitment to providing quality and internationally oriented education while building meaningful linkages that empower its academic community to participate actively in the ASEAN and global higher education landscape.
