The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) participated in the Bamboo Planting Activity in celebration of World Bamboo Day on September 18, 2026, at Barangay San Agustin, Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible natural resource management.

Representing SPAMAST were Dr. Edelyn S. Albiso, Vice President for Research, Innovation, Development and Extension (RIDE); Dr. Grace D. Buencillo, Director for Research and Innovation (RDI); Mr. Kher Dave H. Donos, Director for Extension Services Office (ESO); Ms. Princess Joy T. Clamocha, Project Development Officer II – Research; Mr. Donn Charles N. Carillo, Project Development Officer I – Research; Ms. Chelmarie Jane M. Pelobello, Project Development Officer I – Research; and Mr. Franz Jeemson S. Tan, Project Development Officer I – Extension.

The activity commenced at 8:00 AM with a bamboo planting initiative, followed by the afternoon program featuring lectures on bamboo production. It brought together stakeholders in a collective effort to promote bamboo planting and raise awareness of its environmental and economic significance.

Through its participation, the SPAMAST Team demonstrated its support for initiatives that promote environmental stewardship, sustainable agriculture, and community engagement. The activity also provided an opportunity for participants to gain insights into bamboo production and its potential to support sustainable livelihoods and responsible resource utilization.

The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13: Climate Action, through environmental initiatives that support climate-conscious practices; SDG 15: Life on Land, by promoting planting activities and environmental conservation; and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, by recognizing bamboo as a renewable resource that can contribute to sustainable production practices.

SPAMAST’s participation underscores its continuing commitment to advancing environmental sustainability and strengthening partnerships with communities and stakeholders toward a greener and more sustainable future.
