The Southern Philippines Agribusiness and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST), through its Research, Innovation, Development, and Extension (RIDE) Unit, conducted the RIDE Mid-Year Performance Evaluation, Strategic Agenda Review, and Planning Workshop on September 16–17, 2026, at Twin Mountain View Resort.

The two-day activity brought together selected RIDE personnel and Institute Deans to assess the accomplishments of the RIDE programs and projects, review strategic priorities, and recalibrate plans for the second semester in pursuit of more effective and responsive institutional implementation.

Spearheading the activity were Vice President for Research, Innovation, Development, and Extension Dr. Edelyn S. Albiso; Director for Research Dr. Grace D. Buencillo; and Director for Extension Mr. Kher Dave Donos. Several top management officials were also invited to share their insights and perspectives, providing institutional guidance and reinforcing the alignment of RIDE initiatives with SPAMAST’s strategic directions.

The workshop focused on evaluating mid-year accomplishments, identifying implementation gaps and challenges, and determining strategic interventions to enhance the delivery of research, innovation, development, and extension programs. Through collaborative discussions and planning sessions, participants worked toward the formulation of key outputs, including a consolidated mid-year progress report, an updated RIDE Strategic Agenda, a recalibrated second-semester work plan with clear targets and timelines, and a consolidated action plan outlining strategic interventions for improved program and project implementation.

Beyond reviewing accomplishments, the activity served as a platform for strengthening institutional accountability, aligning priorities, and fostering collaborative decision-making among RIDE units and academic leaders. The discussions emphasized the importance of evidence-based planning, results-oriented management, and coordinated efforts in translating institutional goals into measurable outcomes.

The activity also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, through the strengthening of research and innovation initiatives; SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, by promoting accountable, effective, and evidence-based institutional management; SDG 4: Quality Education, through the enhancement of research-informed academic and extension initiatives; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by fostering collaboration and coordinated action among institutional stakeholders.

Through this initiative, SPAMAST reaffirms its commitment to continuous improvement, strategic alignment, and responsive implementation of its RIDE programs and projects. The outputs of the workshop are expected to guide the institution’s second-semester priorities and support the attainment of its research, innovation, development, and extension goals in service of its academic community and partner communities.
