MALITA, Davao Occidental — The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST), through its Institute of Teacher Education (ITEd), celebrated World Teachers’ Day 2026 through a convocation program on October 5, 2026, at the SPAMAST Founders’ Hall, highlighting the invaluable contributions of teachers in shaping the future of education and society.

Anchored on the theme, “Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing Its Status and Shaping Our Futures,” the celebration recognized the dedication, commitment, and sacrifices of educators in nurturing learners, strengthening the teaching profession, and contributing to national development.

The program commenced with an arrival and prayer service, followed by the World Teachers’ Day celebration proper, featuring the entrance of colors, invocation, national anthems, and other ceremonial activities. Students also presented audio-visual materials, opening performances, and special intermission numbers in tribute to the teaching community.

The gathering was attended by SPAMAST officials, faculty members, personnel, and students. SPAMAST President Dr. Lynette A. Bontia delivered the inspirational message, emphasizing the institution’s continuing commitment to educational excellence and the vital role of teachers in advancing its mission.

The celebration also featured a message from the guest speaker, Marilou E. Borra, MPA, PhD, RPM, Provincial Government Department Head of the Provincial Government of Davao Occidental – Provincial Human Resource Management Office (PGDH-PHRMO) and Chief of Staff to the Governor. Her participation underscored the importance of recognizing and supporting educators as essential partners in public service and community development.

The program further included a values focus led by Edell Quinn D. Casis, MA, Values Restoration Officer, along with messages from education leaders and representatives, the presentation of certificates and tokens of appreciation, and a special tribute to teachers. These activities highlighted the importance of professional integrity, lifelong learning, and appreciation for the people who dedicate their lives to education.

Through the initiative of the Institute of Teacher Education (ITEd) and the Student Supreme Government (SSG), the celebration provided an opportunity for the SPAMAST community to express gratitude to its educators and reaffirm its commitment to fostering a supportive and empowering environment for teaching and learning.

Beyond honoring the teaching profession, the celebration reinforced the role of teachers in developing competent, responsible, and values-driven graduates who can contribute meaningfully to their communities and the nation.

The celebration supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, by recognizing teachers as key drivers of inclusive and equitable learning; SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by promoting appreciation and a supportive environment for educators; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by highlighting the dignity, protection, and professional advancement of the teaching workforce; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by strengthening collaboration among SPAMAST administrators, faculty members, students, and government partners in advancing educational excellence and supporting the teaching profession.

Through this celebration, SPAMAST, through its Institute of Teacher Education, reaffirmed its commitment to standing with teachers—not only on World Teachers’ Day but throughout the year—as partners in building a stronger institution, empowering educators, and shaping a better future for generations to come.
