MALITA, DAVAO OCCIDENTAL — Stepping into a new workplace comes with both opportunities and responsibilities. Recognizing the importance of preparing its newest members for a productive and professional work environment, the Southern Philippines Agri-Business, Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) conducted an Orientation and Planning Session on Work Readiness for Newly Hired Employees on September 16, 2026, at the SPAMAST Audio-Visual Room (AVR), Malita, Davao Occidental.
The activity was facilitated by the Auxiliary Services Office, headed by its Director, Dr. Elenito P. Bugawisan, as part of the office’s efforts to help newly hired personnel understand their roles, responsibilities, and expectations as members of the SPAMAST workforce.
Adding significance to the activity, Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Janet R. Octura and Human Resource Management Head Atty. Paloma Grado attended the session and delivered messages to the participants. Their messages emphasized the importance of professionalism, accountability, commitment, and a strong sense of responsibility in carrying out public service.
The session also featured Prof. Lalaine M. Gella as resource person for the discussion on “Work Readiness: Enhancing Emotional Intelligence and Professional Resilience in the Workplace.” The discussion highlighted the importance of emotional intelligence in managing workplace relationships, responding constructively to challenges, and maintaining professionalism in diverse work situations.
Prof. Gella also underscored the value of professional resilience, encouraging the participants to develop adaptability, self-awareness, positive workplace attitudes, and the capacity to remain effective amid changing demands and challenges.
Beyond orientation, the session served as a venue for the newly hired employees to gain a clearer understanding of workplace expectations while strengthening their preparedness to contribute meaningfully to the institution’s operations and public service mandate.
Through initiatives such as this, SPAMAST continues to invest in its people by fostering a workplace culture anchored on professionalism, continuous learning, resilience, and responsible public service. The activity contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by promoting lifelong learning and skills development; SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by strengthening employees’ workplace competencies, productivity, and professional resilience; and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by promoting ethical conduct, accountability, professionalism, and effective public service within the institution.
