Empower 2024: Leadership Training Ignites SPAMAST Student-Leaders

The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) hosted a two-day leadership training event, “Empower 2024: Leading Together, Succeeding Together,” at the Student Center in SPAMAST, Malita, Davao Occidental on August 21-22, 2024. The event aimed to equip student leaders with the essential skills and knowledge to lead effectively within their respective organizations.

The training commenced with the acknowledgment of participants by Dr. Aldwin T. Miranda, Director for Student Services, followed by an inspiring message from SPAMAST President, Dr. Lynette A. Bontia. Prof. Ritchell Ann Hervas, Coordinator of the Student Organization and Disciplinary Office, presented the rationale behind the event, while Mr. Abdullah Mangulayon set the expectations for the training.

Dr. Miranda kicked off the training proper with “Leadership 101,” focusing on the roles and responsibilities of student leaders from both the Malita and Buhangin campuses. Following this, Mrs. Sheryl Mae P. Carbajosa delivered a session on “Leadership: Mastering Various Styles for Success,” offering insights into different leadership approaches.

The session on “Inside-Out Leadership: Building Self-Awareness and Emotional Intelligence” was presented by Ms. Margaret E. Depalubos, the student facilitator and school psychometrician, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness in leadership. Dr. Elenito P. Bugawisan tackled “Leadership in Action: Navigating Challenges and Maximizing Impact,” providing practical strategies for overcoming leadership challenges. Additional insights were shared by the SSG Adviser, Prof. Bryan Rubio, while Prof. Imelda T. Lauron addressed “Leadership Challenges: Gender and Development Orientation,” highlighting the significance of gender sensitivity in leadership.

To ensure the effective operation of student organizations, participants were also briefed on the necessary documents and procedures required by SPAMAST’s administrative offices. This orientation was facilitated by representatives from the concerned administrative departments.

The training concluded with participants feeling empowered and better prepared to take on leadership roles within their organizations, embodying the event’s theme of leading and succeeding together.
