The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) commemorated the National Women’s Month with a compelling convocation held on March 3, 2025, at the SPAMAST Auditorium. With the theme “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas”, the event underscored the indispensable role of women in shaping a progressive nation. The morning commenced with a solemn prayer service led by Reverend Melicio T. Gumallawe, invoking divine guidance for the celebration and reaffirming the commitment to women’s empowerment. His message emphasized faith as a cornerstone for resilience and leadership among women in all sectors of society.
The convocation proper began with an inspiring opening address from Director for Gender and Development (GAD), Imelda T. Lauron, RSW, MSSW, who set the tone for the event by highlighting the importance of gender inclusivity in national development. The highlight of the gathering was the keynote address delivered by Ms. Marites T. Gonzalo, LPT, IP Education Ministry Director of the Malita Tagakaulo Mission. She passionately articulated the challenges and triumphs of women in various industries, advocating for stronger policies to bridge gender gaps. Her speech resonated with attendees, underscoring education and leadership as key drivers for empowering women in marginalized communities. The audience, composed of faculty, staff, and students, responded enthusiastically, recognizing the collective effort required to foster an inclusive society.
Adding to the significance of the occasion, SPAMAST President Dr. Lynette A. Bontia delivered an inspirational message that reinforced the institution’s support for gender equity and women’s rights. She emphasized the importance of continued advocacy, education, and leadership opportunities for women within and beyond the academe.
