SPAMAST IASDC Celebrates Indigenous People’s Month Culmination

The Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Development Communication (IASDC) of the Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) celebrated the culmination of Indigenous People’s Month on October 16, 2024, at the SPAMAST Buhangin Campus in Malita, Davao Occidental. The event was a vibrant celebration of Indigenous culture and heritage, bringing faculty, staff, and students together.

Prof. Elizabeth Joy S. Quijano, the Program Head of the Bachelor of Science in Development Communication Program and a renowned Blaan writer, was the resource person during the event. Her insights and contributions highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting indigenous culture, drawing on her expertise as a cultural advocate.

The celebration commenced with a holy mass, setting a solemn and respectful tone for the day’s activities. The event was attended by faculty members and students from the SPAMAST Buhangin campus, led by their Dean, Dr. Elenito P. Bugawisan. Participants proudly wore indigenous attire, showcasing the unique cultural identity of various tribes and fostering an atmosphere of unity and pride in their heritage.

The culmination event provided a meaningful opportunity for the SPAMAST community to honor and celebrate the rich cultural traditions of indigenous peoples, reflecting the institution’s commitment to cultural preservation and community engagement.
