Assistant Professor Elizabeth Joy Quijano, BSDC Program Head, has been chosen as one of the
sixty distinguished participants from the ASEAN region to take part in the Sustainable and
Inclusive Cultural Tourism program in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The event is scheduled to take
place from August 19-22, 2024.
Prof. Quijano will represent the Philippines in this prestigious program, which is fully
funded by the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), The Asia Foundation, and
the US Embassy in Jakarta. This selection highlights her contributions and commitment to
sustainable cultural tourism and her role as a key figure in promoting inclusive tourism practices
within the ASEAN community.
The program aims to foster regional collaboration and enhance the participants' understanding of
sustainable tourism practices that respect and preserve cultural heritage while promoting
economic development. Participants will engage in workshops, field visits, and discussions with
experts, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and the development of innovative
strategies to boost cultural tourism in their respective countries.
Prof. Quijano's participation underscores the Philippines' active involvement in regional
initiatives aimed at sustainable development and cultural preservation. Her selection as a
representative is a testament to her expertise and dedication to advancing these important causes
within the ASEAN region.
