The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST)–Buhangin Campus held its convocation on August 11, 2026, at the Buhangin Campus in Malita, Davao Occidental, carrying the theme “New Beginnings, New Connections: Embracing Diversity and Building One ASEAN Community.” The gathering brought together students, faculty, and academic leaders in an institutional celebration centered on cultural understanding, meaningful connections, and the shared responsibility of fostering an inclusive academic community. The program featured messages from SPAMAST officials and a keynote message from Mae Rhasol M. Pagal, ASEAN Cultural Heritage Studies Instructor, emphasizing the value of recognizing cultural diversity as a foundation for stronger communities and regional cooperation.
The convocation opened with institutional preliminaries and messages from key campus officials, including Engr. Leo C. Radores, ICET Dean, who delivered the opening message, and Dr. Lynette A. Bontia, SUC President–SPAMAST, who welcomed the participants. The program also featured the introduction of the keynote speaker by Prof. Eldum L. Limao, MS, BSA Head, followed by the presentation of certificates and intermission performances representing the different academic programs. Announcements from the Student Organization Development Office, Supreme Student Government, and academic program representatives further underscored the role of student participation in strengthening campus engagement and fostering a connected academic environment.
Beyond the formal proceedings, the convocation served as a platform for SPAMAST–Buhangin Campus to reinforce its commitment to an educational environment where diversity is respected, connections are strengthened, and students are prepared to participate responsibly in an increasingly interconnected ASEAN community. The initiative is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education, SDG 10 on Reduced Inequalities, SDG 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals, reflecting the institution’s continuing efforts to advance inclusive education, social cohesion, and collaborative development.
