The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) held a successful Stakeholders’ Consultative Conference on June 5, 2024, at the SPAMAST Old Board Room in Malita. The event, facilitated by the Institute of Professional Graduate Studies and led by its Dean, Dr. Pedro M. Avenido, focused on the introduction of new Ph.D. program offerings.
Dr. Marlyn B. Llameg, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, formally welcomed the participants, including SPAMAST officials, partner agencies, alumni, and prospective enrollees of the doctorate programs. Dr. Llameg emphasized the importance of this conference as part of the requirements for developing a comprehensive curriculum, essential for SPAMAST’s pursuit of university status. She highlighted that as the only state college in Davao Occidental, SPAMAST is committed to offering Ph.D. programs aligned with its mandate and stakeholder expectations.
The proposed programs include:
- Ph.D. in Business Administration, with majors in Agri-Business Management and Enterprise Management
- Ph.D. in Fisheries
- Ph.D. in Marine Biology
These programs are designed to meet the academic and professional aspirations of the community and ensure the sustainability and relevance of the curriculum. Dr. Llameg expressed her gratitude to all participants, underscoring the importance of stakeholder collaboration in achieving these goals.
Dr. Edelyn S. Albiso, Vice-President for Administration and Finance, delivered a message on behalf of SPAMAST President, Dr. Lynette A. Bontia. Dr. Albiso thanked the stakeholders for their invaluable input, which is crucial for identifying trends and realizing the college’s vision. She acknowledged the significant role of stakeholders in crafting and attaining SPAMAST’s objectives.
Representatives from various sectors, including the municipal agriculture office, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), local business owners, MBA alumni, and local and provincial government units, attended the conference, demonstrating their support and interest in the new doctorate programs.
The conference featured a presentation of the plan and curriculum for the three doctorate programs, followed by an open forum where stakeholders engaged in discussions, provided feedback, and shared insights. This interactive session allowed for valuable exchange of ideas, ensuring that the programs are well-aligned with the needs and expectations of the community.
The event concluded with Prof. Michelle M. Elemino, Director for Instruction, formally closing the proceedings. She expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts between SPAMAST and its stakeholders in achieving this milestone.
This consultative conference marks a significant step for SPAMAST in expanding its academic offerings and enhancing its role in higher education in Davao Occidental.
