SPAMAST BSSW Students Close Internship Chapter, Open Doors to Professional Calling

MALITA, DAVAO OCCIDENTAL — A significant chapter closed and another began for Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) student interns of Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) as they culminated their Field Instruction I and II internship on May 29, 2025. Held at the SPAMAST Auditorium in Poblacion, Malita, the event symbolized more than just the conclusion of rigorous on-ground training—it echoed a call to serve the vulnerable with compassion, professionalism, and integrity. The ceremony, attended by students, faculty, and institutional leaders, highlighted both the journey and the profound responsibility that awaits the graduating interns.

The program opened with ceremonial preliminaries, followed by heartfelt messages from key academic figures. Prof. Karla C. Aspacio the BSSW Program Head, welcomed attendees with opening remarks emphasizing the vital role of social workers in today’s evolving society. Inspirational words from Dr. Fe S. Canoy, Director for Curriculum and Instruction, framed the interns’ experiences within the broader mission of social justice and human dignity. A moving AVP presentation titled “Internship Journey” drew applause, capturing the essence of fieldwork—empathy in action, resilience in hardship, and learning that transcends classrooms.

The event also honored excellence and commitment with a Special Awards segment led by respected academic leaders. A poignant testimonial by intern Marry Antonette O. Berino provided a deeply personal lens on the trials and triumphs of the internship. As pins were ceremonially removed by student leaders Johanna B. Ugsang and Rhea Mae A. Alpha, marking the symbolic end of their field immersion—an air of accomplishment and quiet anticipation filled the auditorium. The culmination closed with the singing of the SPAMAST Hymn, a photo opportunity, and a shared meal, serving not just as a celebration, but as a powerful reminder of the impact these future social workers are destined to make.
