Breaking Barriers: SPAMAST Advocates Gender Fairness in Workplace Training

In celebration of National Women’s Month 2025, the Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) conducted an Online Gender Sensitivity Session via Zoom for its newly hired faculty and administrative staff on March 17, 2025.

The session featured Mrs. Djamyla M. Caballero, MPA, the Officer-in-Charge Provincial Director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Davao Occidental, as the resource speaker. She provided valuable insights on gender-related issues and emphasized the importance of fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace.

The discussion covered key topics, including gender as a social construct, gender biases, and sexism in language. Mrs. Caballero also presented the legal basis for using gender-fair language and shared guidelines on effectively implementing gender-sensitive communication in both academic and administrative settings.

Participants actively engaged in the session, raising questions and sharing their perspectives on gender sensitivity in the workplace. The event underscored SPAMAST’s commitment to promoting gender equity and inclusivity among its employees, aligning with national efforts to advocate for women’s rights and gender equality.

The Gender Sensitivity Session served as a significant step in ensuring that SPAMAST’s newly hired personnel are well-equipped with the knowledge and awareness necessary to uphold a respectful and gender-fair institutional environment.

In her closing statement, Mrs. Caballero emphasized the broader impact of empowering women in the workplace, stating, “Empowering women in the workplace benefits both individual women and society as a whole. Let us continue to advocate for gender equality and women’s growth in all spheres of professional life. Together, we can create a brighter, more fair future for all.”
