The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) welcomed distinguished officials from the Philippine Army during a courtesy visit that highlighted the institution’s commitment to strengthening its Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program.
The visiting delegation was composed of LTC Jerry S. Lamosao (INF) PA, MAJ Rey Ivan G. Inanyog (ARM) PA, and COL Rey T. Alvarado INF (GSC) PA. Their visit marked a significant step toward SPAMAST’s aspiration to be recognized as an official ROTC unit in Davao Occidental.
The guests were formally received by Dr. Marlyn BL. Llameg, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who conveyed the institution’s appreciation and reaffirmed SPAMAST’s dedication to developing disciplined, service-oriented, and nationally responsive students through the ROTC program.
Central to the discussion was SPAMAST’s goal of institutionalizing an accredited ROTC unit, aligning its mission with SDG 4: Quality Education by providing inclusive and transformative learning opportunities that cultivate leadership, discipline, and civic responsibility. The initiative also reflects SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, as it promotes responsible citizenship, strengthens community security awareness, and prepares students to contribute to national resilience and peace-building efforts.
Following the courtesy visit, the delegation proceeded to witness the 1st 11th Regional Community Defense Group (RCDG) Fancy Drill Competition, where participating cadets showcased exceptional discipline, coordination, and teamwork. The activity underscored the role of ROTC training in shaping not only military competence but also strong character and leadership among students.
The visit further strengthened the collaboration between SPAMAST and the Philippine Army and reinforced the institution’s vision of becoming a center for ROTC excellence in Davao Occidental. With continued partnership and shared goals, SPAMAST moves closer to establishing an official ROTC unit that will serve as a platform for empowering students—equipping them with the values, skills, and sense of duty needed to contribute meaningfully to society and national development.
