The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) was honored with the FSP Advocate Award during the 62nd Fish Conservation Week Closing Program held on September 19, 2025, at the Luxent Hotel, Timog Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City. The celebration was conducted in observance of the Maritime and Archipelagic Awareness Month, highlighting the importance of protecting the country’s marine and fishery resources.
The award was formally received by SPAMAST President, Dr. Lynette A. Bontia, in recognition of the institution’s unwavering commitment to advancing fishery education, sustainable practices, and advocacy for marine conservation. Joining Dr. Bontia were Dr. Edelyn S. Albiso, Vice President for Research, Innovation, Development, and Extension, and Prof. John Paul R. Pacyao, Program Head of BS Fisheries, who have both been instrumental in leading initiatives that align with SPAMAST’s mission of promoting responsible stewardship of aquatic resources.
This recognition affirms SPAMAST’s vital role in fisheries and marine conservation, particularly through its academic programs, extension services, and collaborative efforts with local communities. By receiving the FSP Advocate Award, SPAMAST strengthens its position as a leading academic institution championing sustainable fisheries and marine biodiversity protection in the region and beyond.
