The SPAMAST Malita campus held a vibrant Indigenous Peoples’ (IP) Day Culmination on October 23, 2024, at the SPAMAST Grounds in Malita, Davao Occidental. The event honored the 2024 Indigenous Peoples’ Month and the 27th Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act (IPRA) Commemoration, celebrated with the theme: “Mga Katutubo at Katutubong Dunong: Pahalagahan, Pangalagaan, at Parangalan.” The month-long observance, held every October, aims to honor and highlight the wisdom, traditions, and cultural contributions of Indigenous communities.
The Department of Arts and Sciences, along with students from various SPAMAST programs, organized the event. Students showcased a colorful array of cultural presentations, including a fashion show featuring traditional attires and spirited performances of cultural dances, creating a lively atmosphere and demonstrating the rich diversity of Malita’s Indigenous heritage.
Malita, known for its cultural diversity, is home to four major tribes: the Tagakaulo, Manobo, Blaan, and Muslim communities. This event provided an opportunity to celebrate and recognize their unique customs and artistry, as well as to foster respect and appreciation for Indigenous knowledge and values.
The Indigenous Peoples’ Day Culmination underscored SPAMAST’s commitment to cultural preservation and community inclusivity, celebrating the Indigenous roots and resilient spirit of the local communities that continue to shape and enrich the region.
