SPAMAST Leads Inter-Agency Outreach Advancing Women’s Rights and Volunteerism in Davao Occidental

The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST), through its National Service Training Program (NSTP) and Gender and Development (GAD) Offices, spearheaded the Davao Occidental Inter-Agency Community Outreach Activity held from November 25 to December 12, 2025, where the culmination ceremony was conducted at Tubalan Comprehensive National High School in Barangay Tubalan, Malita. Anchored on the national 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and conducted in celebration of National Volunteer Month 2025, the SPAMAST-led initiative mobilized multi-sectoral partners to deliver integrated health, legal, educational, and social services.

Under the leadership of SPAMAST NSTP and GAD, the outreach program combined advocacy and direct intervention to address pressing community concerns. Students and parents benefited from medical, dental, and legal services, processing of authenticated birth certificates, and a Special Needs Education Fun Day. Information and education sessions tackled teenage pregnancy and HIV/AIDS awareness, youth volunteerism, and responsible digital citizenship, while parents participated in discussions on anti-violence against women and children, responsible parenting, and livelihood skills training, including coconut water vinegar making. These activities reflected SPAMAST’s integrated approach to education, social protection, and capacity-building, reinforced by expert inputs from health, social work, and community development professionals.

The success of the activity was made possible through strong collaboration between SPAMAST and its partners, including Tubalan Comprehensive National High School, San Miguel Global Power Corporation, Davao Occidental General Hospital, the Philippine Statistics Authority–Davao Occidental, the Municipal Rural Health Unit of Malita, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, the Provincial Youth and Development Office, the Davao Occidental Food Technology and Processing Center, and the Family and Life Apostolate. Beyond immediate outcomes, the SPAMAST-led outreach advanced the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), demonstrating how academic leadership and inter-agency partnerships can translate global commitments into tangible community impact.
