Malita, Davao Occidental, October 19, 2024 – The Institute of Professionals and Graduate Studies (IPGS) at the Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) organized a seminar on “IMRAD Thesis Format and Techniques in Publishing Scientific Paper” at the SPAMAST Lecture Hall in Malita, Davao Occidental. The event aimed to equip graduate students with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet one of the requirements for graduation: the publication of their research output, as mandated by CMO No. 15, s. 2019.
The seminar featured Dr. Erick T. Baloran, Dean of the University of Mindanao in Bansalan, Davao del Sur, as the resource speaker. His expertise guided participants through essential aspects of thesis writing and scientific publication, preparing them to meet the rigorous standards of academic research.
Dr. Marlyn B. Llameg, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, delivered a warm welcome message to the participants, followed by the introduction of attendees by Dr. Karen E. Cabalquinto, MAED-EM Program Head and Dean of the Institute of Technology, Education, and Information Technology (ITEIT). Dr. Pedro M. Avenido, Dean of IPGS, provided an overview of the seminar’s objectives, emphasizing the importance of research publication in the academic journey of graduate students. The introduction of the resource person was done by Dr. Fe T. Canoy, MAED-LT Program Head.
The seminar’s morning session focused on Lecture 1, where Dr. Baloran discussed the IMRAD (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion) Thesis Format. His presentation provided practical insights into structuring academic research to meet international standards. The lecture was followed by an open forum, giving attendees the opportunity to engage with Dr. Baloran and clarify their questions.
After a lunch break, the seminar resumed with Lecture 2, in which Dr. Baloran shared effective techniques for publishing scientific papers. This session aimed to enhance the participants’ understanding of the publishing process, from manuscript preparation to submission in peer-reviewed journals. The lecture concluded with another open forum, offering further interaction between the resource speaker and the participants.
The event culminated in an awarding ceremony, where certificates were presented to the resource speaker and participants by the Dean, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Directors, and Program Heads. Dr. Edelyn S. Albiso, MBA Program Head and Vice-President for Administration and Finance (VPAF), delivered the closing remarks, expressing gratitude to the resource speaker and participants for their active involvement in the seminar.
The seminar was attended by graduate school students and faculty members of the IPGS, who appreciated the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of thesis writing and research publication. The event underscored SPAMAST’s commitment to academic excellence and its support for the professional growth of its graduate students.
