A high-stakes evaluation unfolded at the Southern Philippines Agribusiness and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) as the institution hosted a one-day visit from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Technical Panel for Fisheries to assess its Master of Science in Fisheries program for the coveted Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) on May 27, 2025 . At the heart of this academic milestone were national fisheries luminaries Dr. Maria Rowena R. Eguia and Dr. Encarnacion Emilia S. During the evaluation proper, Dr. Eguia and Dr. Yap meticulously reviewed the program’s curricular offerings, research thrusts, faculty qualifications, and institutional capabilities—engaging in dialogue with SPAMAST counterparts to ensure alignment with national standards. Dr. Cesar ensured procedural integrity throughout the process, while Ms. Biglete contributed on behalf of the OPSD Secretariat. The visit concluded with a feedback session where the CHED panel delivered initial observations, met with a heartfelt institutional response from President Bontia.
