
The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology concluded its Gender and Development Culminating Program on March 30, 2026 at the SPAMAST Founder’s Hall, convening students, faculty, and institutional leaders in a collective affirmation of women’s empowerment and cultural heritage. As the culminating activity of a series of gender-focused initiatives, the event underscored the institution’s sustained commitment to advancing inclusive and gender-responsive education. It highlighted the critical role of women in shaping academic spaces and driving community development, reinforcing equity as a central pillar of institutional progress.
In his opening remarks, GAD Focal Person Jasper Hendrix V. Alcalen emphasized the importance of sustained engagement in gender advocacy and the need to translate awareness into action. This was reinforced by College President Dr. Lynette A. Bontia, who delivered a message of inspiration calling for leadership grounded in inclusivity, cultural awareness, and social responsibility. A central feature of the culmination showcased creative works that drew from indigenous traditions and contemporary experiences, presenting narratives of resilience, identity, and leadership. These outputs provided a reflective lens on the evolving roles of women while affirming the enduring relevance of cultural heritage. The event also fostered active participation, strengthening a shared sense of responsibility among stakeholders to advance gender equality.
The culmination was marked by the recognition of outstanding contributions, affirming excellence in advancing the program’s core values. In her closing message, GAD Director Imelda T. Lauron expressed gratitude for the collective efforts that shaped the initiative and reiterated the institution’s commitment to sustaining gender and development initiatives. The program concluded with a symbolic expression of unity, reinforcing a shared vision for inclusive progress. This initiative aligns with the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5 on Gender Equality, Goal 4 on Quality Education, Goal 10 on Reduced Inequalities, and Goal 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, contributing to the broader pursuit of a just and equitable society.
