The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST), in coordination with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) through the DBM–Systems and Productivity Improvement Bureau (DBM-SPIB) and DBM Regional Office XI, successfully conducted a One-Day Learning Session on Internal Control and Internal Audit on January 22, 2026, in Digos City.
The activity was organized through the initiative of the SPAMAST Internal Audit Unit (IAU) and aimed to enhance the understanding of internal control systems and internal audit functions as essential mechanisms in promoting good governance, risk management, accountability, and operational efficiency within the institution.
Resource persons from DBM Regional Office XI, Mr. Antonio M. Faunillan Jr., Assistant Regional Director, and Ms. Zillah Joanne P. Gallardo, Acting Chief Budget and Management Specialist, shared valuable insights on the critical role of management and audit in strengthening institutional controls.
Participants to the learning session included the College Top Management, Directors, and Unit Heads, whose leadership and commitment are crucial in ensuring the effective implementation and sustainability of internal control systems across the College.
This initiative is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, which underscores the importance of accountable, transparent, and effective institutions. It likewise supports SDG 4: Quality Education by strengthening the capacities of SPAMAST officials and key personnel through continuous learning and institutional development.
The activity reflects SPAMAST’s continuing commitment to upholding transparency, sound financial management, and compliance with government policies in pursuit of institutional excellence.
