SPAMAST Conducts Hands-on Training on Mangrove Conservation and Aquasilviculture

The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) successfully conducted a hands-on training on Mangrove Conservation and Aquasilviculture: Theory to Practice for Sustainable Communities at Barangay Fishing Village, Malita, Davao Occidental on March 27 to 28,2025.

This initiative is part of the Empowering Coastal Communities through Mangrove Propagation, Management, and Aquasilviculture project, which aims to enhance environmental sustainability and livelihood opportunities for coastal residents. The training was made possible through funding from SPAMAST, reflecting the institution’s commitment to fostering sustainable marine and coastal resource management.

Participants, including local fisherfolk, community leaders, and environmental advocates, engaged in both theoretical discussions and practical applications of mangrove conservation and aquasilviculture. Experts from SPAMAST provided insights into the ecological importance of mangroves, best practices in propagation and rehabilitation, and sustainable aquasilviculture techniques to boost community-based fisheries.

Through this initiative, SPAMAST continues to advance its mission of promoting environmental stewardship and sustainable development in coastal communities, ensuring long-term benefits for both the people and the environment of Malita, Davao Occidental.
