
The Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) actively participated in the First Davao Sustainable Future Conference (DSFC) held on October 29–30, 2025, at the Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City.
As one of the co-organizers of the event, SPAMAST joined other state universities and colleges (SUCs) in the Davao Region in promoting sustainability-driven research and innovation. The conference served as a platform for faculty researchers to present their studies addressing contemporary environmental, technological, and socio-economic challenges in the region.
SPAMAST emerged as a top researchers during the conference after winning two major awards:
Best Paper Award — “Charcoal Briquettes from Abaca (Musa textilis var. Ginampay) Wastes as Alternative Source of Biofuel”, authored by Engr. Ellthon I. Turtor, Grace D. Buencillo, Cristy Jean A. Caalim, and Jonah Claire P. Recto. The study highlights an innovative approach to waste utilization and renewable energy development.
Best Poster Award — “Automated Aeration Management System for Fishponds using ESP32 and Dissolved Oxygen Threshold Logic with Real-Time Data Analytics”, authored by King Ressurrects C. Nuevo, showcasing smart aquaculture technology for sustainable fish farming.
These recognitions affirm SPAMAST’s strong commitment to advancing applied research that supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Life Below Water (SDG 14).
