SPAMAST and Nigeria Maritime University Forge Partnership to Enhance Maritime Education

In its initiative to advance maritime education and strengthen international collaboration, the Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) and Nigeria Maritime University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 3, 2024. The signing ceremony, conducted virtually, signifies a major step forward in fostering global academic partnerships.

The MoU focuses on collaborative efforts in academic exchange, research development, and the sharing of best practices within the maritime and marine sciences fields. Dr. Lynette A. Bontia, President of SPAMAST, expressed her excitement about the partnership, emphasizing how it reflects SPAMAST’s commitment to expanding its international presence and enhancing maritime education programs.

Dr. Marlyn B. Llameg, SPAMAST’s Vice-President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Ariel E. San Jose, the Director for International Affairs and Linkages, also played key roles in the virtual ceremony. Both emphasized the strategic importance of this collaboration, noting that it would significantly contribute to the academic and professional growth of students and faculty from both institutions.

The event was marked by a strong sense of mutual commitment to educational excellence and global cooperation. Representatives from both SPAMAST and Nigeria Maritime University highlighted the MoU’s potential to advance maritime education not only in the Philippines and Nigeria but also globally.
