In observance of National Environmental Awareness Month, the Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) hosted a symposium on November 20, 2024, at the Buhangin Campus, Malita, Davao Occidental.
Organized by the Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Development Communication, under the leadership of Dean Dr. Elenito P. Bugawisan, the event brought together faculty, students, and stakeholders to promote environmental consciousness.
The day began with a holy mass, setting a reflective tone for the activities.
The symposium proper followed, featuring Ms. Jilliane Rae Cabili, MSc, Program Head of the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (BSES), as the keynote speaker. Ms. Cabili delivered an insightful presentation emphasizing the urgent need for sustainable practices and proactive environmental stewardship.
In her talk, she highlighted individuals’ and institutions’ roles in mitigating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and fostering sustainable development. Her expertise inspired the attendees to take actionable steps toward environmental preservation.
Participants actively engaged in a Campus Clean-Up Drive to conclude the event, transforming the symposium’s discussions into tangible actions. The initiative reinforced SPAMAST’s commitment to integrating environmental awareness into its academic and community activities.
The successful event underscored the institution’s dedication to cultivating environmental stewardship among its community members and affirmed its role as a leader in promoting sustainability in the region.
