Kapihan sa PIA and Barangay Information Officer’s Orientation Held at SPAMAST Malita

The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Davao Occidental successfully held the Kapihan sa PIA and Barangay Information Officers’ Network Orientation at the Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) in Malita, Davao Occidental on April 23,2025, Malita, Davao Occidental. It was also streamed live via the official Facebook page of PIA Davao Occidental, allowing a wider audience to benefit from the discussions in real time.

The event brought together barangay workers in Malita, and community stakeholders to discuss vital updates and strengthen public information dissemination at the grassroots level. In the afternoon, the Kapihan featured timely discussions on the upcoming midterm elections, led by Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Mohammad Fyzee Alim of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Davao Occidental. Atty. Alim shared critical updates and reminders to ensure an informed and participatory electorate.

Also gracing the event were Engr. Ernie C. Vargas, Provincial Head of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Davao Occidental, who discussed ongoing digital initiatives in the province, and Mr. Rene V. Carbayas, PIA Regional Head, and Ms. Carina Cayon, Head of the PIA Davao Occidental, provided orientation and guidance to the barangay information officers on their pivotal role in local communication networks. 

In addition, the event served as a valuable media exposure opportunity for Development Communication students from SPAMAST, who were specially invited to attend. Their participation allowed them to observe real-world applications of public communication, journalism, and community information work, enhancing their academic learning with hands-on experience.

PIA Davao Occidental extended its gratitude to SPAMAST for its continued support and partnership in public service initiatives. The institution’s collaboration in hosting the event highlights its commitment to civic engagement and nation-building through education and community outreach.
