The extension project “Promoting Food Resiliency through Palaisdaan sa Pamayanan” took a significant step forward with the successful implementation of a training program aimed at enhancing the capabilities of small-scale fish farmers in Barangay Demoloc, Malita, Davao Occidental. The training, which focused on “Capability-Building on Tilapia Production Techniques,” was conducted on September 13, 2024.

The program, designed to provide comprehensive information and practical knowledge, covered six modules essential for effective tilapia production. These modules included Introduction & Biology, Site Selection, Pond Construction, Stocking, Feeds & Feeding, and Pond Management. The sessions were led by Project Training Specialists, Ms. Anna May Baldomero and Ms. Kaye Necesario, who shared their expertise with the participants. Additionally, Mr. Kher Dave Doños, a member of the extension project, conducted an engaging session on Tilapia Breeding and Hatchery Management.

The initiative aimed to elevate the farming practices of the participants and enhance their understanding of pond management. The program commenced with a presentation of the rationale by Mr. Michael Jeriel Bersaldo and concluded with the distribution of certificates of participation. Mrs. Jessa May Marquez, the project leader, expressed her gratitude to the community for their active participation and collaboration in this purposeful extension experience.

This training program signifies a positive step towards empowering small-scale fish farmers and promoting food resiliency within the community. The project team’s dedication and the active involvement of the participants have contributed to the success of this endeavor. (Christian Gil Carta)
