Empowering Farmers: ESO Hosts Bookkeeping Training in Jose Abad Santos

A two-day Training on Basic Bookkeeping and Financial Management for Small-Scale Farmers was successfully conducted on March 13–14, 2025, at Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental. This initiative was a collaboration of Extension Services Office of SPAMAST, SPAMAST JAS Campus, led by Mrs. Ana Fe Canasta, and Municipal Agriculturist Office, headed by Ronville M. Muego. The training gathered local farmers, representing four associations in JAS, to equip them with essential financial skills to better manage their farming ventures. Angela Jo Jocoy hosted the event, while the Extension Services Office, under Director Kher Dave Doños, facilitated the activities.
The training featured Ms. Kerubina Acuña as the resource speaker, who shared her extensive knowledge of basic bookkeeping and financial management. She emphasized the importance of proper record-keeping, journalizing, costing and financial decision-making to help farmers sustain and grow their businesses. Through interactive discussions and hands-on exercises, participants learned practical ways to track income and expenses, ensuring financial stability in their farming operations.
Participants expressed their appreciation for the training, highlighting how the lessons would greatly benefit their agricultural enterprises. This initiative not only strengthened the financial literacy of small-scale farmers but also fostered a deeper collaboration among local farming associations and government institutions. The success of this event underscores the continued commitment of SPAMAST on its extension activities and its partners in supporting the agricultural sector through education and capacity-building programs.
