On July 2, 2024, the Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) welcomed the Accrediting Agency for Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) for a significant survey visit. The event, held at the SPAMAST Lecture Room, focused on the accreditation of the Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology (BSMB) and Master of Science in Fisheries (MSF) programs, seeking Level III accreditation.

The team of esteemed accreditors was led by Dr. Cecilio L. Manarpaac. Accompanying him were Dr. Paloma DC. De Chavez, Dr. Suzette Q. Palla, and Dr. Alma B. Segismundo, who participated virtually via Zoom to evaluate the programs.

The ceremony commenced at 9:30 AM with an opening statement from SPAMAST President, Dr. Lynette A. Bontia. Dr. Bontia emphasized the significance of the survey visit in ensuring the institution’s commitment to quality instruction, state-of-the-art facilities, and proactive initiatives in research and extension services.

Following the statement of purpose, the Director for Quality Assurance, Dr. Jovelyn L. Franca, introduced the Internal Assessment Board of SPAMAST. She also presented the Area Leaders responsible for preparing the necessary documentation for the visit.

Post the opening ceremony, the evaluation process began with break-out sessions where the assigned accreditors conducted detailed assessments of specific areas of the programs. The evaluation also included a virtual tour of the college’s physical plant, facilities, and laboratories to ensure they meet the required standards.

This survey visit marks a pivotal step for SPAMAST in its quest to elevate the academic standards of its BSMB and MSF programs, further enhancing the institution’s reputation for delivering quality education and fostering academic excellence.
