In a bold initiative to align academic research and extension programs with national development priorities, the Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) successfully hosted the 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒏 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑬𝒙𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑨𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒂 2025-2028, 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒚 (𝑰𝑷) 𝑷𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒚, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒔 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒖𝒂𝒍. The event, held on April 4, 2025, gathered faculty members, administrative staff, and key stakeholders to deliberate on institutional policies that will steer research initiatives and community extension programs in the coming years. The consultation aimed to refine SPAMAST’s research direction, strengthen intellectual property policies, and enhance academic standards through an updated Thesis Manual.
Dr. Grace D. Buencillo, Director of Research, Outreach, and Innovation (ROI), spearheaded discussions on the institution’s Research and Development (R&D) Agenda, emphasizing the need for responsive and impact-driven projects that address pressing socio-economic and environmental challenges. Her presentation highlighted the significance of collaborative research efforts in fostering innovation and community development. Meanwhile, Mrs. Joy Tuba Dano, Research Coordinator, led the presentation on the Intellectual Property (IP) Policy and Thesis Manual, providing key insights into the proposed revisions aimed at enhancing research integrity and ensuring proper protection of intellectual assets within the institution. Her detailed discussion highlighted best practices in research management and compliance with global academic standards.
The consultation yielded significant outcomes, including the consolidation of recommendations for the finalization of the Research and Extension Agenda 2025-2028, a refined IP Policy framework that aligns with international protocols, and an updated Thesis Manual set for institutional implementation by 2025. With active participation and insightful exchanges among stakeholders, the event foregrounded SPAMAST’s commitment to fostering academic excellence, promoting innovation, and strengthening the research culture within the institution and beyond.
